Lee Soo Kyung/Meaningful Place First Draft/Thursday 1-3pm

Every time I was disturbed in mind or had something to worry about, I used to visit the cafe near my house. A star-shaped signboard always welcomes me. From outside to inside, whole cafe was painted with a color of strawberry-flavored milk. Thanks to a pink covered the cafe, which is my favorite color, I was fascinated to its appearance. When I entered to the cafe, the antique clock grabbed my attention at the entrance. Because it was hanged on the wall I could see in a straight direction from the entrance, it became my habit to check the time through it as soon as I set my foot. It was not very huge in size, but it had enough place to take my own time without any disturbing. The warm atmosphere and sunshine coming through the big semitransparent glass windows helped me to set my mind at rest.

Many different types of chairs, stools, high-back chairs, sofa and corner chairs, made me hard to choose where to sit. The favorite one, however, was a very soft and comfortable sofa. With closing my eyes and relaxing on the sofa, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee greeted my nose. I simply forgot everything complicated at that moment. The peaceful classic music and noisy of roasting coffee was borne on the smell of chocolate cookies. I felt the warmth through the cup filled with cappuccino and it was bitter-sweet to the taste.

  1. The best part I liked about your essay is the way you described the antique clock on the wall. The place was described quite well, but it would have been even better if you had described in detail how the color pink maked you fascinated(for example how why it is your favorite color, or what it feelings you have with the color). You definitely tried to use different senses; the bitter-sweet taste of cappuccino made my mouth water and the classical music that played in the cafe allowed me to imagine the calm peaceful but with coffee machinr noise typical cafe-like atmosphere of the place. The way this place makes you to forget about any stress that you may have sitting down in the sofa. All in all I enjoyed reading your essay. The atmosphere of the cafe would seem more real if you add on the texture of the various kinds of sofa in the cafe, or how cozy the area feels to you.

What I liked most about your writing was that you used personification, which is "A star-shaped signboard always welcomes me." It was like you are reflecting your feeling of loving that cafe by saying the cafe is welcoming you. There wasn't any parts that I was confused and I believe you used different senses well; The warm atmosphere and sunshine coming through the big semitransparent glass is containing both senses of sight and touch (warmth) and the armoa of freshly brewed coffee appeals to smell. I also felt like being in that peaceful cafe and the calm atmosphere of cafe would definitely be the reason why you love to go there and chose to write about it. To improve your writing, if you add some more details such as how are the workers there or how the cafe is decorated on some special days such as on Christmas!

    The Pink Cafe
Every time I was disturbed in mind or had something to worry about, I used to visit the cafe near my house. A star-shaped signboard always welcomes me. From outside to inside, whole cafe was painted with a color of strawberry-flavored milk. Thanks to a pink covered the cafe, which is my favorite color, I was fascinated to its appearance. I have loved the pink color since I was a little child, because I thought it created a very cozy and warm atmosphere but also had a congenial image. For this reason, I was captivated by this cafe more easily.
Also, an owner of the cafe always receives an order with a saying “Have a lovely day”, and maybe it made an atmosphere of the cafe more softly.
Many different types of chairs, stools, high-back chairs, sofa and corner chairs, made me hard to choose where to sit. I felt as if I was in the refined furniture store because the stiff chairs made of wood and fleecy ones made of fabric were in good shape. The favorite one, however, was a very soft and comfortable sofa. The size was enough for two adults to sit. Above all, the color of it, creamy-ivory reminded me of cream cheese cake, was coordinates with the cafe.
I especially loved the softness of froth that left on my lips after keeping the cappuccino in my mouth. I really thanked to the warmth of this cafe that used to be my home whenever I visited.
