Lee Soo Kyung/Memory Chain Writing/Thursday 1-3pm

I will never forget the experience that happened in 2003 when I was eight years old. For me, as a child, this experience instilled enough fear.

It was heading into summer and the peak season. I went on a summer vacation to Haeundae Beach with my parents. There was no place to even pitch a tent as expected. We barely set up the tent and nestled down in it. The wind touched my hair gently.

After a while, I woke up to the sound of my dad going out. He went out to buy some water without noticing that I followed him. I'd been excited to take him by surprise.

Because of the performance, however, there were too many people to walk forward. I pushed my way through the crowd, but it's impossible to catch my dad. Finally, I missed him in an instant. Suddenly deeply frightened, I started to look for anyone who can help me. Just at that moment, grandfather playing with his granddaughter caught my eyes. I blindly ran to there. Then, I asked for grandfather I had never seen to please find my dad between my sobs.

He took me over to center for missing children, trying to soothe me. A stroke of good luck in the midst of misfortunes, I remembered my dad's phone number exactly. Everyone in the center joined forces to find my dad. Thanks to their kindness, I could meet my dad again.

That taught me I can get out of any trouble situation so long as I gather myself up and is my memory for life.

  1. I also have similar experiences except the difference is that I was too young to remember. I can't begin to imagine how you must have felt in that moment. The little details in your story were allowed me to really picture that day. I'm glad the memory did not traumatize you and prevent you from going out!

  2. I think you were very lucky to have known the number of your father. When I was little it happened to me several times, and after that because it was so common for me to get lost, the number of my mother is the only number I know by heart now. We are very lucky people :)
