As far as I remember, my first experience with writing in English is writing letters to my friends. I had never considered it as a writing experience because I didn't have any pressure in doing so. I always wrote letters to my foreign friends on their birthdays. This is probably why I feel much comfortable writing in English than in Korean.
Before entering university and taking writing lessons, I had another English-writing experience. I participated in a volunteer program held by World Vision where I was asked to translate letters sent to each other from sponsors and supported children.
A pleasant experience I have had with writing is when I took writing classes last year. I had never actually learnt how to write, so I didn't have confidence in my writing skills. In the class I was able to learn how to write, how to use appropriate strategies and vocabulary that suits well, and so on. I worked hard, especially on the final essays. It was a hard job, but I managed to write an essay that was satisfactory, and got a good grade. This experience encouraged me to get more interested in writing and gain more confidence.
One thing I truly hope for is to develop ability to write more quickly. Most of the problems I face are caused by my lack of ability to do so. I expect that I'll be able to write more easily then. Through this course I hope to have a better understanding of which vocabulary, collocations or expressions are used in different kinds of writings. I am also looking forward to learning new skills or tips for writing practices.
